 SCIENCE LAB EQUIPMENT

You will be a cool scientist if you know how to use the equipment shown below.

MICROSCOPE

Practice the parts of a microscope by typing in the correct name for each part. Click on Check to check your answers.

Microscope

Every Life Scientist must know how to use a microscope.

LENGTH

Use a ruler.

Units: centimeters (smaller than an inch), meters (longer than a yard), kilometer (smaller than a mile)

All Scientists

Volume of a regular Object

Objects you can measure all sides with a ruler.

Length x Width x height = volume

Physical Scientists

Volume of an Irregular Object

Objects you cannot measure all sides with a ruler.

1. Fill a graduated cylinder with a liquid.  Read the meniscus of liquid in a graduated cylinder.  Initial Volume = ______________

 2. Submerge the Irregular Object in the graduated cylinder. Read the meniscus of liquid in a graduated cylinder.  Final volume = ______________

3. Calculate the volume of the irregular object.

Final volumeInitial Volume = Volume of Irregular Object

Physical Scientists

Initial Volume= 9.6mL

Final Volume = 24.15mL

Irregular Object = 14.55mL

MASS

Balance Beam- compares the known mass of an object 1 to the unknown mass of object 2 to determine the unknown mass of object 2.

All Scientists
DENSITY

Density is mass divided by volume or the amount of matter in an object for a specific volume.

Density = mass/volume
